Curse in the finals is a blessing in disguise for Maria Sharapova – Tennis News
Former world number one, Maria Sharapova, had a tremendous season this year except her dismal performances in the finals of the Major tournaments. She has not clinched any title this year despite making it to the finals of the
three tournaments.
World number two stated, “The few errors on important points that I made I thought were, you know, maybe I shouldn't have gone for the line so much, aimed a little bit closer to the middle. You do a really good job to get there,
but it's the toughest round. I would have loved to be the winner, but that's just the way it goes.”
It is probably a blessing in disguise. Had Sharapova won all three titles, she would have been the top ranked player of the world but it would have taken the essence of the spot away from her. Now she is still out there performing
extremely well and practicing hard to diminish the curse of finals.
The best news that a tennis fanatic and Sharapova’s fan can hear is that she is having the best run of her time since 2008. She won her last Grand Slam title in Melbourne, the Australian Open. Since that time, she has been going
through a very dismal run of form, hampered by several injuries especially the shoulder and ankle injury that forced her to stay away from the courts for a considerable period of time.
She must be given some time before people can attach any sort of expectation with the Russian. She has been through a very tough time and making such an eye-startling comeback is already a mammoth achievement for any tennis professional.
Even the champion of the Sony Ericsson Open, Agnieszka Radwanska, was proud to have defeated the 6’2 tall Russian. She mentioned “It's a great feeling to beat these kinds of players, especially in a final." It shows that she is
a world class act and definitely deserves a lot of respect for all her achievements, since her maiden Grand Slam title at Wimbledon 2004; upsetting the defending champion, Serena Williams, in the grand finale. She was just 17-years-old at that stage. Now the
24-years-old Sharapova seems very old to be playing in the French Open tournament later this month.
Sharapova is that kind of a player who believes in her ability to oust anyone on her day. If it was not for those 45 unforced errors she committed in the final of Miami, she might have dumped the Pole to take her first title. So,
all her fans need to be patient because defeat is the first step towards victory.
