I am redoing my bedroom and i like the simple look of a curtain rather than bulky wooden doors, my closet door is about 36" wide by 80" tall, does anyone know how to accomplish this or can someone direct me somewhere? thanks

  1. You can either use a decorative curtain rod on the outside of the closet, just like a window treatment, or you can use a tension rod or something similar on the inside of the closet to hang the curtain from.

    Check this out from IKEA:

basically, instead of a curtain rod, it's a tension wire that's attached to fixtures at either end of the wall. I like that it's a lot less bulky than a a curtain rod and the tension keeps it straight without sagging in the middle.

IKEA also has tons of very cool curtain options. but you can use anything, from bed spreads, to fabric from Joann's.

For a more casual look (or in a smaller room), you can gather the curtain and tie it in a knot half way down the length of it which will give it an hourglass sort of look... but will show the contents of the closet more.

you can also use curtain rings with clips to attach to the rod to make it easier to open and close. experiment with color too, you don't have to match it to the wall color.

  2. get a tension rod that extends to 36" and run it on the inside of the closet , get a pair of rod pockets curtains to mach the colour of the wall this way they will blend in well.

I find that the tension rod can be moved easily to give a  free run for the panels .

About the lenght of the panels , you just raise the rod up closer to the ceiling until you reach the desired lengh.

  3. i love that idea, i have done it myself in our house b/c the little doors were so constricting. just go to a closeout store like ross or homegoods and pick out a curtain rod you like. i use urban outfitters bedspreads for curtains all the time. i just line them with an ivory sheet and hang with curtain rod clips.

the bedspreads are just a linen-y material with no lining. they're also huge. good luck!

  4. That's simple enough :)

When I was in college, the doors on the closets were all messed up, so we would get tension rods and shower curtains to cover everything up. There are also window curtains that are long enough to go to the floor, but if you don't like anything that you find, you can go to the fabric department at walmart or whatever and get a fabic you like and make curtains from those.
