Curtis Granderson shines as New York Yankees outclass Detroit Tigers 6-2 – MLB Update
New York Yankees outclassed Detroit Tigers 6-2 at the Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Sunday, April 29 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Curtis Granderson and Alex Rodriguez displayed some high quality hitting skills in the second to help the Yankees take 2-0 lead. Tigers’ first baseman Prince Fielder homered to right in the fourth to reduce that advantage to 2-1. However, the Yankees continued to play aggressively and they scored twice in the seventh to shutout the Tigers.
"We were really fortunate to have a shot in that game the way the game was going," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "In this ballpark, with a lineup like that, normally that doesn't happen. And it won't happen."
"When you have your ace on the mound and you talk about trying to win all the series and you're tied 1-1 you feel pretty good going into that day," New York’s Manager Joe Girardi said.
Jim Leyland and company made the most of available opportunities in the second game to level the series but unfortunately for the fans the Tigers were unable to put up similar numbers in third and final game and New York secured an easy win to improve their win-loss record to 12-9.
Detroit had made a great start to the running season, winning majority of their first ten games. However, they have not been able to maintain their excellent form, which eventually damaged their record to 11-11.
Dave Dombrowski’s side has now lost three straight series. Texas Rangers dominated them in almost all departments of the game to win the four match series 4-1. The Tigers then suffered a humiliating series sweep at the hands of Seattle Mariners.
Losing another three match series to the Yankees, the GM will be very disappointed with what he has seen from his team over the last couple of weeks. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can put up a better show in their upcoming regular season games to keep their American League Central division title hopes alive.
