Curtis Ogren conquers Men’s 400 yard IM prelims – Speedo Winter Junior Nationals
Curtis Ogren of Palo Alto Stanford conquered the qualification rounds of Men’s 400 yard Individual Medley (IM) on day two of the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at University of Tennessee, Knoxville on Friday, December 7.
Ogren stifled hopes of his challengers in the distant IM discipline as he qualified into the final as top contender for gold medal.
With his remarkable pace, Ogren remained four and a half body lengths ahead of his closest competitor and surfaced on the finishing wall for first position by producing a time of 3 minutes and 46.13 seconds.
Ogren was followed by Zachary Lierley of Mount Pleasant Swim Club, who was 4.41 seconds apart and made his way to the playoff as second position by clocking an effort of 3 minutes and 50.54 seconds.
Third best position of the race was obtained by Thomas Anderson of College Area Swimming, who was 1.31 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing wall by reporting a time of 3 minutes and 51.85 seconds.
Anderson was followed by Steven Stumph of Orinda Aquatics, who suffered a loss of 0.08 seconds from his former finisher and hit the wall with a timing of 3 minutes and 51.93 seconds for fourth position.
Stumph was followed by Jonathan Roberts of North Texas Nada, who was only an inch apart and proved his eligibility for fifth position by posting a time of 3 minutes and 52.12 seconds.
Roberts was chased by Nick Arakelian of Kingfish Aquatic, who remained 0.04 seconds slower and tapped the wall for sixth position by reporting an effort of 3 minutes and 52.16 seconds.
Similarly, Arakelian enjoyed an advantage of Robert Owen of Crimson Aquatics, who remained one and a half body length behind and ended his swim in seventh place by clocking a time of 3 minutes and 52.46 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was secured by Patrick Mulcare of Dayton Raiders-O, who was 0.45 seconds slower and posted a time of 3 minutes and 52.91 seconds.
Furthermore, Ogren was happy with his top position and claimed that he would try his level best to continue the same in playoff.
