Curtis Ogren seizes Men’s 400 yard IM gold – Speedo Winter Junior Nationals
Curtis Ogren of Palo Alto Stanford seized gold medal of the Men’s 400 yard Individual Medley (IM) on second day of the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at University of Tennessee, Knoxville on Friday, December 7.
The 16-year-old Ogren smothered hopes of his opponents in the 400 yard discipline as he went full rampant in the playoff and grabbed the crown.
With his unrelenting efforts in the discipline, Ogren remained significantly ahead of his opponents and touched the wall for the title with the timing of 3 minutes and 44.87 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Jonathan Roberts of North Texas Nada, who was almost five body lengths behind and touched the wall with an effort of 3 minutes and 49.60 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Steven Stumph of Orinda Aquatics, who was 0.46 seconds apart and stepped on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by clocking a time of 3 minutes and 50.06 seconds.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Zachary Lierley of Mount Pleasant, who was unable to secure his spot on the victory stand and posted a time of 3 minutes and 50.21 seconds.
Lierley was chased by Thomas Anderson of College Area Swim Club, who was 0.43 seconds behind and concluded his race in a time of 3 minutes and 50.64 seconds for fifth spot.
Anderson was traced by Nick Arakelian of Kingfish Aquatics, who was almost three body lengths apart and hit the wall with an effort of 3 minutes and 53.59 seconds for sixth place.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Robert Owen of Crimson Aquatics, who was 0.39 seconds away and touched the wall with an effort of 3 minutes and 53.98 seconds.
Owen was followed by Patrick Mulcare of Dayton Raiders-O, who remained prominently slower from his preceding swimmer and clocked a time of 3 minutes and 58.17 seconds.
In addition, Ogren expressed happiness after clinching gold medal of the discipline and stressed that he would struggle hard to impress his supporters by accomplishing the same at forthcoming World Championships in Turkey.
