Custom Built computer and built in infared?

Question

I am working on a custom built computer for myself and i got Windows XP Professional installed. I am mainly going to be using this to do schoolwork casual gaming and watching TV. When i was looking trough windows i noticed that the computer has built in Infared. I was thinking of buying a remote that came with a usb receiver. now my question is can i just buy a remote and pair it with some kind of software to control cyberlink powercinema
