Custom audio for my car?

I'm willing to spend no more than $1000 on audio for my Toyota Matrix. I'm hoping to get some reccomendations here. I need a head unit, sub(s), amp, and possibly four new door speakers. So, if you had my car, what would you put in it? This is exactly what it looks like > http://files.myopera.com/technogeekboy/blog/matrix.jpg

  1. Pioneer and Kenwood usually produce the best sound quality and options, and yet remaining at an affordable price. Find one w/ Sub Output.

Look into Alpine, Infinity and Rockford Fosgate door/dash speakers. Tweeters do wonder to sound quality. Possibly only replacing 2 front tweeters and 2 back speakers may be sufficient and still money managing.

One 12" sub will do the trick. Best size in a subwoofer, and also can be extremely loud when in the correct enclosure.

Shop around for an enclosure. 3/4 MDF wood. Vented or sealed is up to your preference, but vented creates a bigger ~boom~.

Match the sub to the enclosure following maximum manufacture specs to get the best bang from the subwoofer.

Alpine Type R, Rockford Fosgate P3, Polk MoMo, Infinity Kappa Perfect, MA Audio XL, and Kicker L5 are in an affordable price range! The Alpine Type R is the most durable, affordable, and the 'best bang for the buck' in it's class.

Use at least a 4 gauge amp kit to wire the amp.

Some of the best amps to power these subs are the Kicker ZX series. MTX and MA Audio are fairly good too.

    Use a 1 channel/mono amp.

Always match the RMS of the sub to the Peak of the amp.

All of these prices are considered from online. Read the entire item description to ensure it is brand new, and read the feedback on the company you are purchasing from. Good luck.

What are you talking about match the RMS of Everything?!!! In that case, you are only going to push everything Too hard.

Matching the Max of the amp to the RMS of the sub enables the sub to reach full RMS potential. At the users preference, it's okay to go over the RMS, somewhere between the RMS and the Max. But to match the RMS of everything is pushing the sub to it's limits. It'd have to be a DURABLE sub, don't you think?!!

Think about what you said.. Match The RMS Of Everything!! That'd be like mtaching a Rockford Fosgate Power Series BD1000.1 to one Fosgate P3!! Get real!

  2. I beleive Cam just said "match the RMS of the sub to the PEAK of the amp".  What the h**l???!!!!????  Completely disregard that statement.  Match the RMS's of EVERYTHING.  If i were u, i would spend about 150 on a nice deck (pioneer or alpine), about 150-200 on ONE pair of nice front door speakers (infinity), 200 on a 12" sub (Rockford or alpine), and the rest on a NICE 4 channel amp (Rockford or alpine) to run it all.  Bridge channel 3 and 4 to the sub of course.  that'll give you the best system for the money

  3. I'd go with a Kenwood head unit, Kicker 5 channel amp, Boston sub, and Polk speakers.  Budget is pretty tight but should be doable with this setup.
