Custom contact lenses, ophthalmologist's assistant said my daughter can't wear contacts.?

My daughter was prescribed glasses. The assistant told us she would probably be able to wear contacts eventually if/when her vision gets worse. Is there such a thing as custom lenses for weaker prescriptions?

Thanks!!!

  1. There are several minor prescription combinations that can't be corrected with contacts .

If she wears something like  -0.25 -0.50 X 90...no contacts are available to fix that....even custom made has limitations.

  2. You daugther could wear contacts if you choose too. Sometimes you should let her get use to the glasses before she tries contacts. If she is really young doc might not want to put her in contacts because specail contacts are expensive.

I think the doctor is the one who makes the desicions not his assistant. I am sure his assitant had a why she told you what she did.

Maybe the RX isn;t high enought for her to where contacts all the time.

It's really hard to say... ask to speak with that assistant again and ask her why... or just ask the doctor.

  3. Does your daughter have to wear glasses all the time? If not then this might be where the assistant was coming from. Contacts, obviously, would be worn all the time throughout the day.

If your daughter does wear glasses all the time then contacts are definitely an option. I started wearing contacts right when I needed glasses (I never used glasses) when I was in 6th grade. There are no special lenses, but contacts are a lot more expensive then glasses. If your daughter is responsible enough to take care of her eyes (there is a lot more care involved with contacts then glasses) and she wants to do it I would go for it.

As far as I know there are contacts for all prescriptions (except really high ones).
