Custom issues may create problem for teams in 2012 Indian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari's sporting director, Massimo Rivola has expressed concern that they may face problem in launching their necessary updates in the 2012 Indian Grand Prix because of custom issues.
All the teams are making the essential preparations to come up with the essential updates in their cars so as to deliver their best in the remainder of the season. Conversely, there are chances that the bureaucratic nature of the custom authorities in India
may create problem for the team to bring in the significant updates in time as they are likely to face delays. Therefore, almost all the contenders are planning to take their update packages to Abu Dhabi instead of India.
However, Rivola has said that they are going to try their best to do the necessary work before the race so that they may not in need to take anything extra for the Indian GP.
“It is a bit of a problem, that is a fact,” he said, when asked by AUTOSPORT about the Indian customs implications. “We try to maximise what we can do at the factory in order not to go to India with an extra shipment, because the risk is that we won't get
the extra shipment on the track. And also, even if you get it there, you won't know if you can bring it to the following race. So, it is a bit of a gamble. As always when you gamble you take a bit of a risk. We will see.”
On the other hand, McLaren technical director, Paddy Lowe thinks that the teams should send the vital updates directly from Korea to India where the race is going to be held at October 28, 2012 so as to avoid any kind of inconvenience.
Even so, he insisted that the contenders may struggle with finding the alternatives if the updates didn’t work according to their plan.
It will be important to mention that the custom implications in India hampered the performance of the teams during the last year also. Let’s see whether they are going to face the same issues in this season too or not.
