Question:

Custom made internet dresses anyone?

I have seen these companies in ebay and on some other sites where you select the gown, then send in the money and your sizes and they will custom make your gown. They usually seem to be from China. Has anyone tried this? I am wondering if they are indeed too good to be true...I am also wondering if they are as fast as they say. It would be wonderful if they were...

TIA

  1. I, like Cassie, ordered mine this way too. (I placed the order in July, so, it should be finished at the beginning of September).

Make sure you read all the feedback that people gave about the seller & the dresses. It also helps to look to see if anyone bought the same style you are interested in. If they did & left good feekback, you could alwyas send them a messege asking them more about their experiance & if they could send you a pic of the actual dress they recieved (so you can see how it compars to the picture).

The dress I bought came  to about $200 total (including the shipping). I looked everywhere (including David's) and no one had a dress I liked that was in my price range. (I want a princess-y looking dress that has a detachable train so that I do not need to deal with a bustle) The one I found from a place on eBay was exactly that.

  2. You asked the key question in wondering "are they too good to be true?"  If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.  Please please please please please do yourself a favor, and avoid these scam artists like the plague.  What they do is illegal, it's copyright infringement.  Some of them will have photos that they've pulled off the internet of a designers gown, and then tell you that they can make you a copy of a high end designer gown for pennies on the dollar.  So you pay your money, including the aforementioned horrendous shipping fees, because it's still cheaper than buying the dress in a bridal salon.  But the problem is, you either never get your dress, or your dress comes in looking NOTHING like the photo of the gown you thought you ordered.  Since these "companies" are in China, you have absolutely no recourse against the company like you would here in the US.

So, do yourself a favor, and do not buy the most important dress you will wear off the internet.  Go to a bridal store, physically try on dresses, and find the dress that will make you feel like a million bucks, but you won't have to spend that much on it, I promise!  If you have a basic idea of how much you want to spend on a dress before you start trying dresses on, a good consultant will show you dresses ONLY in your price range.  I'm a bridal consultant, and I'd say the bulk of the dresses I sell are in the $500-$1000 price range.  No, they're not designer gowns, but they're close imitations of them, made of less expensive fabrics and less embellishment and less hand sewing on the gown, but it doesn't make them any less beautiful.  And, while you'll read that you need to allow up to a year to get your wedding dress, that's if you're looking at a couture, custom made gown.  I've had brides order their gowns and we get them in the store within a couple of weeks, if the gown is in stock, so that takes care of the timing issue as well.  Just please don't buy your wedding dress over the internet.  You won't know what it looks like until you try it on, and the only way you can do that is in a store.  I wish you all the best!

  3. I work with a girl that got her prom dress like that, she picked out the style, color and sent in all here measurements, but beware she told me that you need to check on the shipping charges before ordering they can be outrageous.

  4. The shipping charges on these dresses are usually about $150 (australian), but it still works out WAAAAY cheaper than buying from a store.

I have just ordered my dress from one of these stores on ebay!! I did my homework, and talked to heaps of people that ordered off there, none had any problems. I went through all the sellers (there are heaps), and picked one who had no negative feedback, and who asked for heaps of proper measurements (there was one guy who just wanted my waist, hips and bust size. How could you make a dress from just that???)

I think it's great, after all, it just has to last one day. I got a proper dressmaker to take my measurements, to make sure that was right. I say go for it. If it doesn't work out, you've lost a hundred and fifty dollars. But if it does, think of how much you've saved!
