I know that if i get one in white it will be cheaper to custom paint it.

i really want it in a pink, bubble gum pink, not a dark or very light color.

But if i strip the car of the paint my self will it be any

cheaper to get i custom painted?

And roughly how much does it cost?

the whole car, plus the panels inside?

thank you :]

  1. If the paint on it is in good condition you dont need to strip it off, just sand it down a bit for good adhesion. If you do all the sanding and masking off and removal of lights yourself you can have a cheapo shop like Maaco paint it for $300 ish dollars and you will get a decent job. Some Maaco shops suck and some are pretty decent. Do a search for different shops in your area and ask people with experience.

Be warned though that a real high quality job typically costs $3000 or more.

LOL at people thumbs downing me. I have owned 37 cars and painted at least half of them. Get a clue you noobs. Maaco can do a decent job sometimes but for high quality you need to spend the money and go to a shop. What's wrong with that statement. Freakin retards. I have been painting cars since the early 80's

  2. Custom painting is not cheap. No matter the color. If your V.W. is new, do not take it to Macco. The quality of work and materials will devalue the car. You want a shop that is going to take the car apart, completely. The bumpers need to come off, the glass out, handles, locks, all of it. Don't ask a shop to do this, see if they tell you they will. That way if there are any issues with the paint the shop has no corners to hide in as for warranty. Adhesion and quality of materials are key to a good paint job lasting a lifetime.

  3. It will cost at least a couple of thousand, and you need it done by a professional with a spray gun and spray booth, if you try to do it with any type of spray paint or regular paint, the car will look terrible.

White isn't really any easier to paint then any other color, you still need to sand down the old paint, put a coat of primer on, put on new paint, and then clear coat over the new paint.

If you go with a cheap-o place like macco, then the pre-paint work (sanding) wont be done as good and unless you buy the expensive paint job (almost $1000 for a regular color paint, pink is more expensive) the car will not look good at all in 2 or 3 years (the paint will fade, it happened to me more than a couple of times)
