A lady wrote two checks to my store. Both checks got returned for "insufficient funds" I went to her bank and tried to cash the checks and they said they can't do it. I called her home, her husband said she's homeless & doesn't live there anymore. I called her cell and she isn't calling back. Here's the thing..she owns an art place a block away from me. When I go there there's a sign on the door "closed for repair"...what do I do about these checks..how much time should I give her to call me back? Should I call the cops? If I call the cops how do I get the $ back?

..............

Sorry for all the questions..we usually don't take checks from customers and this has never happened before

...............

Thank You

  1. Time to call the cops and file charges. You may have to sue her in court the get the property that she bought returned to you.

  2. Whenever I get NSF checks, I go to their bank (every day if necessary) until they have money in the account. I then exchange the check for a cashier's check.

If this fails, I give the account to my collection agency.
