  1. I did the exact same thing. If like me yours cut into muscle tissue, you will need to let it bleed a bit to flush any debris out, then rinse gently under cold water to help ease swelling, and have someone help you with bandaging. Do NOT get stitches if it is swollen, they will rip through the skin and shred it.

What you need are Steristrips, gauze, neosporin, peroxide, and silk medical tape. You can buy butterfly closures or make your own with medical tape (silk med tape that can be bought at walmart) and cut it to look like an hourglass with a thin but sturdy center part. Put one end on the piece that's gone and pulled back, and tape it close up to the other side to force them back together.

Do this in the 3 worst areas of the wound and then put a large glob of neosporin over the wound, then gauze and more silk tape to hold it in place. The steristrips will fall off in time, just change the bandage daily and don't let the gauze get wet or it will allow bacteria to grow on the wound. After about 2 weeks, you should be able to move from the gauze to regular large waterproof band-aids.

Hope this helps. And as for a reference to how I know to do this, my mother's been a critical care nurse trained for would care for almost 20 years and this is exactly what she did to my finger when I did the same thing.
