Question:

Cute pets to have at college???

Me and my gf are trying to get a cute, furry pet to keep in a college dorm room. Definitely should be something small that doesn't make noise, doesn't smell too bad, is kinda low maintenance, and the cage requiements are small as well.

We had thought about a mouse as we both heard they fit all the above requirements. What do you guys think?

  1. i think hamsters are the best. i have had tons of rodents, and those are the best.  Mice are cute and good, well fancy mice, but their urine stinks horribly. well, unless you change the cage EVERYDAY. and i mean everyday. rats also are good and are the cleanest rodents.

  2. mice or rats. yes rats, i said it. i had a zoo in my dorm room and only got caught once, and the smell wasn't even from what people were complaining about. so a lot of things are possible

  3. a rat

-Theyre easy to tame(in my experience)

    -They dont smell-unlike a mouse

    -Theyre really clean

-Theyre quiet so they wont keep you awake at night

    -They are really funny

-They are cheap to feed/ house

    -And they are really cute!

  4. I would suggest 2 dwarf hamsters. I've had robos and absolutely loved them, and now I have winter white russian dwarfs (siberians). They are super cute, don't smell (like mice, those REALLY smell), sleep a lot so they don't make much noise, and can live in a pretty small cage since they are small. If you do get robos though, don't get a cage that has bars, they escape SO easily from those since their bones are collapsible. Crittertrails are great for robos and other dwarf hamsters since they don't grow as big as Syrians and won't get stuck in the tubes like the Syrians do when they grow to full size.

  5. I have a rat & a mouse.

The mouse wont let me pet him, but the rats already l*****g & nibbing* my fingers.

*Not biting just gently placing it's teeth on me (it's a sign of affection). "love bites"

Either pet you get, their cage should be to be cleaned once a day, everyday! (but it's easy work & something I do out of love).

You have to get 2 (I'm buying a second one soon, all he has   now is a mouse to play with) of the same s*x (trust me, you don't want 12 babies every month!)

Rats should only be breed by professionals, they put a lot of time & effort into breeding pedigree rats.

    Edit:

Also rats can be taught tricks.

Come when their names called, beg, fetch, etc.

And what's really cool is you can bath them with this stuff:

I can't wait till it comes in the mail, my little babies are going to smell like little babies.

If you don't like the smell of a baby powder there are other brands.

  6. I would go with a pair of gerbils.  They don't need a big cage.  Mice smell and I know because I have them.  Gerbils don't drink a lot so they don't pee a lot so the bedding doesn't smell too bad and they are extremely friendly.  They are fun to watch.  They aren't noisy unless you put a wheel in their cage.

  7. I would recommend a pair of same s*x mice. They will keep each other company, are friendly, and you can customize their habitat.

    Good luck in college!

  8. i would recommend a hamster or mouse. they are very easy to take care of. they really dont need alot of human attention as long as they come in a pair. and the great part is that you could buy then those funy color crazy cages that have tubes in wheels inside for them to craw around and make you dorm room look neet.
