Cuts and re-signings: Indianapolis Colts consolidate roster to 53 players – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts introduced some changes to the squad at the 11th hour of the deadline for 53-player roster of past Friday, as required by the National Football League (NFL).
In the drive, the managers have released a few players, reclaimed some off the waivers and signed another bunch to the practice squad, to cut down the number of players.
Offensive tackle Ty Nsekhe, cornerback D.J. Johnson and safety Jermale Hines have been released by the team in the post-preseason roster consolidation campaign. All these players have spent time at training camp of the team and assisted players during early
workout phases.
The Colts have also accepted back nose tackle Martin Tevaseu, offensive tackle Mike Person and safety Sergio Brown. They were released by the team earlier this year and were not claimed by other sides off the waivers.
Meanwhile, the team has also signed several players to the practice squad. They will be available to assist players in the workout activity. It is an acceptable norm with all franchises that they keep a group of players to provide assistance to the main
squad members in training and workout activity.
The signees are tight end Kyle Miller, safety Latarrius Thomas, offensive guard Hayworth Hicks, defensive tackle Chigbo Anunoby, receiver Kashif Moore and linebacker Jerry Brown.
Another group of players was released by the Colts last week to meet the Monday deadline of reducing the roster to 73 players.
With these changes, the Colts appear done with reshuffling and hiring firing drive, which had begun right after the team came out of the 2-14 season. The rash campaign was led by owner Jim Irsay, who has let go almost all former officials, coaches, junior
staff and some key players, including their star performer quarterback Peyton Manning.
Although the future is going to be a witness to credibility of these changes, the owner is apparently satisfied over what he has done to his franchise. Interestingly, he has not spoken of a particular performance target or benchmark out of this season in
spite of the fact that he has completely overhauled the team.
