Question:

Cutting Down on Horse Showing Costs?

I live in IL and show on the local, USEF recognized hunter/jumper circuit. (IHJA.) With gas so high and the bad real estate market (my parents are both involved in the housing industry), and me being too young to legally get a job, we don't have a lot of money coming in, therefore I really haven't been showing as much as I'd like to because showing expenses are so high. Showing my own pony is out of the question because he's not safe for other people to ride, so I can't split show costs with anyone. So besides finding a horse that I can share on to split stall/trailer fees, what are some other ways you hunter/jumpers are able to cut costs at horse shows and spend the smallest amount of money possible on showing fees?

  1. Why not trade being a steward for your entry fees? You know resetting jumps and running errands for the judges ets?
