Question:

Cutting Sugar for Anxiety Probs... Agave Nectar?

I'm cutting back sugars in my diet, and eventually, getting them to tiny proportions in order to improve my anxiety disorder. So, obviously, table sugar, junk food, corn syrup... all gone! But what about Agave Nectar? I've read it has a low glycemic index... but what does that really mean? Is it still a harmful sugar that could exasberate anxiety?

  1. stay away from it.........your body will adjust to less sugar....all sugar does is hide the real taste of food and create more desire for sugar........do drink OJ though......

  2. if you absolutely must do sugar, it's not gonna kill ya, but i'd stick to natural sugars, in fruit or Orange Juice, like he said. if you're really addicted, you can perhaps try stevia?

  3. if anxiety is the result of sugar intolerance then is better to stay away from all sources for a while, the hypoglycemia(glucose intolerance) is caused by the size of the glucose load per minute intake meaning that no matter where you get the sugar from it depends how fast it turns to glucose in the body. if it comes too fast then the next step the reaction is over production of insulin and a fast drop of blood glucose leading to headaches, anxiety, and many more symptoms

iddm is diabetes but you do not have to have it to get anxiety

  4. I would suggest you cut back on caffeine too, if you haven't already.  How much sugar does Agave Nectar have?
