Question:

Cutting a goats horns?

We have a nubian goat and he's about 9 months old, his horns have grown and become very sharp. He is a pet and loves to play with our 5 year old. My brother-in-law came out and he and my husband clipped the ends of his horns, one looks fine but the other one started bleeding. It has quit bleeding now but I was wanting someone that knows about goats to let me know if they should have clipped them or not. Thanks in advance for any help.

  1. You can tip the ends of horns but it really is not a good practice because, like dogs nails, part of the horn is still living and the results is bleeding.  Observe the tip for a while to make sure that it doesnt get infected.
