Question:

Cutting baby fingernails?

My boyfriend cut our son's fingernails about 5 days ago. I noticed that one of his fingertips is red. I assumed that he cut the nail funny and now my son has a piece growing in his skin. I tried to find the piece of nail, but couldn't. I managed to get puss out of the skin. What else can I do? Should I keep playing with the nail and finger?

  1. Take him to your doctors. Hope you have a blessed day.

  2. If there is pus, it is a sign of infection. Don't play with it as you will just make it worse. Take him to see a doctor.

  3. Oh no please don't. bring your son to the doctor asap. you might get him infected if you dig in to the wound any further.

  4. i cut my girls nails with clippers while she is taking a nap , its so much easier than have her squirm when she is awake. say you know ur baby will sleep for say half hour then go up and do it after 25min, that way if you do wake him he will only have miss 5min sleep.

sounds like your little one might have an infection, just pop down to ur doctor to take a look

  5. I would def. take him to the pediatician as soon as you can as puss is a sign of infection.

This article I found might help a new mom with trimming their baby's nails:

  6. it depends how young ur son is, if he's old enough to be out playing in the much & everything else then it could get a nasty infection if you keep playing with it...

it will heal over itself eventually and the skin will push out the bit of nail...

I suggest using a nail file from now on just in case it happens again, kids skin on their hands is much more delicate than ours!

  7. how old is your baby?

mine is 6 months old and i hear a baby's nails shouldn't be clipped but you have to bite them, they say biting prevents a baby from getting sick and something like what happened to your baby.

i dont know how long should i bite them before i start clipping them.

i think it's an old fairytale but i believe in it as i do that to my baby especially when he's asleep cos he doesn't allow me to.

  8. gosh take him to the doctor. they told me to bite his nails sounds bad but its better than clipping em and it works good

  9. no it could get inflamed. my son used to get this until he was about 8-9 months old. try to cut the nail straight rather than bending in at the sides. it's quite hard to cut a baby's nails since they don't exactly stay still so it's best to do it while they're sleeping. use a bit of chlorhexidine and cotton wool to clean the inflamed area and stop playing with the red area. it could make it worse.

  10. Take him to the doctor.  He has an infection, and possibly an ingrown nail.  I'm sure it hurts.  Continuing to play with it at home could make things alot worse.
