Question:

Cutting concrete with a circular saw?

How could I cut a 45 degree angle into a concrete slab? I mean I have a slab with "normal" edges but I'd like it to have 45 degree edges on it. The concrete slab is about 2' up off the ground (it's a basement entrance roof/ceiling). A guy I work with told me they make blades for circular saws that cut concrete. I could use something like this.... Does such a blade exist, and if so, where can I find it? Thanx!

  1. You can get them at any rental center........this is only my opinion........but I would get one with a hose (water) attachment , they just work a lot better.......you will have a little clean-up when you get done...........have fun.

  2. Most certainly...we have done so much concrete sawing in the construction of my house that it isn't even funny ! We get our blades from several sources...some from the local builders supply place, they sell joist hangers, stainless bolts, screws, etc...the heavy duty stuff.

We have even cut thru solid concrete cornices (exterior ones) that weigh 6000 lbs...I will link to the site I made that has all the photos and a few videos.

An additional thought, depending on the size of the cut and the size of your blade, since you want deep angles, you might need to use a grinder for some of it...we have done a ton of grinding too

  3. There is a tool called a scarifier.  You hook a hose up to it to wet the cement as it cuts.  It has a blade that can usually cut 1/4" or so deep up to several feet wide of concrete per pass.

I had a sidewalk that was raised above a driveway and I knocked about a 45 degree angle into the corner of the side walk block to match the driveway.

The scarifier doesn't really slice the way you think a traditional blade on a circular saw does.  Its takes thin wide strips.

You can rent then usually at rental centers that rent tools like home depot or rac.

Theres a diagram here illustrating the diff between a floor sander and a scarifier

  4. what you need is a diamond blade for your circular saw. Its also called a dry cut concrete blade . it comes in different diameters so get the one that fits your saw. cheap ones won't  cut for very long, but sometimes will do the job.
