Question:

Cutting down chimney style cooker hoods?

Hello everyone, hoping someone can help.

I'm interested in fitting (as part of a new Kitchen) a Chimney style cooker hood. However I have a low ceiling (209cm) and therefore none of the standard ones fit with enough room above the hob (electric).

Can ANY hood be cut down or are some not able to ? I'd hate to spend £500 and then realise I'd made a huge mistake.

I think I need to cut about 20cm off and the 2 favourite hoods I'm looking at are http://www.neff.co.uk/632972.html due to the size of the end peice (very slim) I think at least some of the extractor internals must be housed in the chimney part ?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

  1. i have fitted various hoods over the years, and you generally find that the chimney section is adjustable to suit various heights, but if you need to cut it get a small 4"grinder,and a thin cutting disc suitable for stainless steel.you can do it with a hacksaw, but it ends up a ragged edged cut.some hoods do have the fan impeller mounted in the duct but these are usually at the bottom....hope this helps!
