Question:

Cutting down on the alcohol - are there any mocktini recipes or nice ways to seem festive?

After one too many blackouts I have decided that I am making the decision to quit drinking anything more than an occasional red wine.

The whole "s*x and the City" lifestyle has made me pickled, worn and tired.

But I still would like to go out once in a while (or be home) and feel like I have a drink in hand and appearing social - or having the ability to make a nice dinner at home and have something a little less ordinary looking than plain orange juice in a glass.

Does anyone know any "mocktini" recipes or anything like that? Any place that I can get some support?

Not doing AA or anything, but just want to see if anyone else is in their late 20s and tired of the "party"...

Thanks!

  1. I know what you're talking about!

Try this - its alittle sweet, but good and I really like the presentation.   See recipe link...

Oh and a Juice sangria is nice too.  Get your favorite juices (I use cran-apple and pomergranate) and slices of oranges, apples, limes, and lemons, and add club soda for a mock-sangria!

  2. I like lemon flavored sparkling water mixed with cranberry juice about 50/50.  I don't drink it as a mocktail, really, but it would definitely serve as one.  You can have it 'up' in a champagne glass, or over the rocks in a big cooler glass.  Totally up to you and what image you want to portray it in.  A lime wedge added in is good too.

As far as "late 20's and tired of the 'party'" don't worry about it.  All that is happening is your are growing up and into an adult mindset regarding alcohol.  My wife is in her mid 20's and I still get annoyed that she has friends who think that if you have 1 beer, you need to have 15.  Thankfully, she isn't that way.

  3. trader joes has a ton of carbonated fancy juices that are in mock-wine bottles, esp around holidays.

mulled cider - stick cider in the microwave with some spices (good for winter)

combine any juice with any club soda or seltzer and fruit garnish.

  4. you can make any mixxed drinks "virgin"  just be creative to what you use as a replacement, club soda & tonic water works for some, 7-up works for others.
