Cutting up tree stumps in Harvest Moon Cute?

I upgraded my ax to copper and I still can't cut up tree stumps! What do I have to do?

make sure when you press the button, hold it down until you see the character reach back further.  I think you have to hit it like 3 times like that. but also, i may be mistaking...you might need to upgrade to silver.

You need to firstly hold down the button to charge up your axe. You should see your character bend slightly backwards. When it finally does stop bending backwards, let go and the axe will hit the stump. It takes you around six hits to chop one stump up with a copper axe, so I suggest you upgrade to either silver or gold for faster stump-chopping.
