Cutting your snowboard?

I have heard people talk about sharpening the edges of their snowboard so that they cut powder better....is this true?If this is true should i do it to mine? I dont really know how so if someone could tell me that would be sweet.

  1. Sharp edges will help you carve on ice and hardpack.  They will not make much difference in powder.


  2. Powder is loose snow and you could cut through it no problem with your hand which isn't sharpened at all.  Sharpening edges is for if you're riding on harder snow and need extra control there.

    If you think you need it done probably the smartest way to get it done without possibly damaging your board would be to take it to a shop, it's not too expensive and if it's that or (possibly) ruining your board... take it to the pros!

  3. really depends on how you ride, where you ride, and how you like your board to feel. if it feels like you are slipping out and you would like more edge hold, then you can sharpen your edges. if you are riding a lot of park and rails, you may not want to sharpen your edges much at all. a lot of park riders will actually de-tune their edges (make less sharp), so it is more forgiving on rails, jumps etc...
