Cuttino Mobley wants another shot in the NBA

After announcing his retirement two years ago, former NBA guard Cuttino Mobley expressed his intention of getting another shot in the big league to prove that he still have a lot of gas left
in his tank.

Mobley announced his retirement on 10 December 2008 because of a heart condition that could put his life in serious danger, but the 35-year old guard believes that he is fine and is in great
shape. He also added that he is willing to have a series of physicals to prove that he can still compete at a high level.

“I just want to come in and kind of help out for 10, 15 minutes per game if I could,” Mobley said. “And if they wanted to give me a test with three to four different doctors and have me go
through some type of process, I’m all for it. I just want to let people know they shouldn’t be afraid of me and what could happen to me.”

The 11-year NBA veteran, who was acquired by the New York Knicks after sending Zach Randolph to the Los Angeles Clippers in 2008, also regrets his decision of retiring without seeking medical
opinion to check whether the Knicks’ doctors had the right recommendations.

“They tried to do the best that they thought they could do for me,” referring to the Knicks team of doctors. “It kind of shocked me. But instead of months to really think about it, I had
a day or two.”

Mobley worked out with the Celtics during the off-season, but he was not invited to the team’s training camp. The Chicago Bulls and Dallas Mavericks were also rumoured to be interested in
acquiring him, but no deal materialized. He also received offers to play in China and Poland, but he quickly turned it down.

“I’m not going to go across the seas and play for a little bit of money just to go play,” he said. “I’d rather just stay here and at least help some of these young guys that are here on a
team where I really don’t have to play every single game or as much, but just help with practice, camaraderie.”

Mobley, who has a career average of 16 points per game, spent the first seven years of his career with Houston Rockets, before splitting the 2004-05 season with the Sacramento Kings and the
Orlando Magic. He then transferred to the Los Angeles Clippers in the next season before being traded to New York, where he was not able to play a single game.
