Cy Young winners in the MLB this season?

My nod goes to Tim Lincecum, the sole bright spot on a depressing Giants ballclub, and Cliff Lee on the Indians, who is in the same position as Lincecum (but not really). The truth is, if Lincecum had been on even a .500 team, he would have even more phenomenal, impressive numbers... what are your takes?

  1. Cliff Lee looks like the AL winner for sure.

NL is more complicated.  Webb I think is the front runner, but consider this: Sabathia figures to get 7 or so more starts this season.  He's now 8-0 since joining Milwaukie with an ERA of 1.60.  He could easily finish 12-2, 13-1 or something like that.  There is a precedent for a pitcher winning the award even though he switched leagues in midseason (Rick Sutcliff went to the Cubs on '84 and won the award with I think a 13-1 record).  If Sabathia only loses 1 or 2 games and his ERA is below 2.50 I think he'd have to be a strong contender, and if he actually finishes with no losses as a Brewer it'd be tough not to give it to him I think.

  2. BRANDON WEBB   18 WINS!!!!

  3. I would say right now, Brandon Webb and Cliff Lee.  Webb because A) the sportswriters who vote for Cy Young like lots of wins, and Webb might have 22-23 of those by the end of the year, and B) he's on a team fighting for a playoff spot, another thing that Cy Young voters tend to like.

  4. Lee and Sabathia if he keeps up this pace.

  5. agreed, lincecum and lee. what lincecum is doing is nothing short of amazing because he plays on a team that scores so few runs. every giants pitcher has to be almost perfect every time they go out because they cant rely on the offense to score 5 or 6 runs every game. the only reason why people would vote for webb is because of his win total. if you put webb on the giants, he would have as many wins as lincecum or less.

lee has been just like lincecum, the indians are a good team and they dont score a ton of runs yet he is pitching lights out.

  6. I agree, I want Lincecum to win because he does deserve it. He lost at least 5 wins from a shotty bullpen, or no run support. He should be even in wins with Webb. But since Webb has the wins and Lincecum doesnt, they'll probably give it to Webb

Cliff has it in the AL hands down

  7. Brandon Webb in the NL

Lee on the Indians in the AL
