Cyber Secret pointed toward the Southwest Stakes, after his massive win in an allowance race
The newly turned 3-year-old colt, Cyber Secret, won his maiden at first asking, and got straight away pointed toward the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club at about 1 1/16 miles on dirt at Churchill Downs in his juvenile season.
Much was expected of, Cyber Secret, in his first graded stakes race, but the Kentucky bred colt failed to make an impression as he got pushed aside to finish a distant seventh on the day to winner, Gemologist.
He was privately sold to Charles Cella, the president of Oaklawn, after the race.
“I saw the colt at Churchill Downs, when he ran in the Kentucky Jockey Club,” Whiting said. “When he walked into the paddock I thought, ‘This is a good-looking colt.’ I was looking for a horse for Mr. Cella. I thought I’d make an inquiry. We were able
to get a price on the horse, and ended up buying him.”
His first two starts came at Belmont Park and Churchill Downs, and by then the juvenile season for Cyber Secret was over, and he found the hard way that things are only going to get difficult from now on in his sophomore season.
The son of Broken Vow, out of mare Stomping by Dixieland Band, Cyber Secret got pegged back once again in his seasonal debut at Oaklawn Park, where he was pointed toward an allowance/optional claimer at about 1 1/16 miles on dirt on 15 January, 2012,
under jockey C Hill.
Atigun won the race, and Cyber Secret was nowhere to be found as he finished way behind the winner in ninth position, not well by any standards.
His connections might have found a fault somewhere in his approach toward the race, and would’ve felt that Cyber Secret can do better if given another chance.
So, he was entered in another allowance/optional claimer at about the same distance as the last one, and over the same venue and the same surface.
Cyber Secret won the race by 5 ¼ lengths, and now he is pointed toward the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes at about a mile on dirt at Oaklawn Park on 20 February, 2012.
