Cycling Profile: Amber Neben
Amber Neben is an American racing cyclist that currently rides for the Nurnberger team. She took the biggest victory of her career at the 2008 UCI World Time Trial Championships and in the 2003 United States National Road Race Championships.
In 2003 she also managed to secure the Gracia tour, Tour du Montreal and in 2005 the Tour de l’Aude which she retained in 2006. She is the first American cyclists to win three multiple UCI category 1 stage races. Neben joined Webcor Builders Cycling team
in 2010.
Amber attended the Nebraska University on a track and cross-country scholarship while strain fractures stopped her from running. After earning her Bachelors of Science degree she took part in cycling while at University in California, where she got a Masters
degree in Biology. The American concentrated on Mountain biking but she took great success in road racing.
She started her career in 2001 and took the first stage of the Women Challenge and GP Feminin International du Canada. She also secured runner-up spot in United States National Road Race Championships and first spot in California State TT Championships.
During the 2002 season, Amber took runner-up spot in the road race and time trial National Championships. She continued her efforts on the road and grabbed second place in Housatonic Valley Classic and also took her first mountain jersey at the first stage
of Gracia Cez-Ede. She took a part in United States National Road Race Championships in 2003 and secured first place. After the Montreal World Cup she tested positive for a banned substance and the results were not confirmed while she appealed to the Court
of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for a decision and accepted suspension from mid-July 2003.
However, the result showed that the doping had occurred but that it was not intentional and due to CAS rule she did not participate in any race until 2004. She came back to racing and took the runner-spot in United States National Time Trial Championships
and also grabbed seventh place in Giro della Toscana.
Neben won the Tour de l’Aude in 2005 and retained her National Time Trial Championships in 2006. She also earned many victories in the 2006 season and took runner-up spot in La Route de France Feminin, L’Heure D’Or Feminin and Thuringen-Rundfahrt.
In the 2007 season, Neben was satisfied with her performance on the road and secured the first spot in the Redlands Bicycle Classic race and Route de France Feminine race. Amber secured the runner-up place in Time Trial Championships behind Kristin Armstrong.
She finished third in Giro Prix de Suisse in 2008 and took runner-up spot in Giro d’ltalia Femminile.
In Tour Cycliste Féminin International Ardèche, Amber showed her strong abilities and grabbed overall first place in the race. Finally, she won the UCI World Time Trial and third spot in Chrono Champenois. She continued her tremendous efforts in the 2009
season and took part in Gracia-Orlova and in the third stage she easily beat Trixi Worrack and Linda Villumsen as she covered the distance of the stage in 25 minutes and 32.70 seconds.
Amber also secured the second stage of Tour de l’Aude Cycliste Feminin and Giro d’ltalia Femminile. In 2010 she grabbed the fourth stage and finally took the overall runner-up spot in the Women Tour of New Zealand. She again secured runner-up spot in United
States National Time Trial Championships. If she continues her efforts in the road race then there is possibility that she can win the Giro d’ltalia Femminile next year.
