Cycling Profile: Cadel Evans
Cadel Evans is an Australian professional racing cyclist and he is the first Australian rider to win the UCI ProTour and UCI road Championships events. His current team is BMC racing team.
Cadel was mountain biker champion, first he riding for Diamondback MTB team and then for Volvo-Cannondale team then he won the World Cup in 1998 and 1999. He continue his ability in 2000 summer Olympics and grabbed seventh place in the Men’s cross country
(mountain bike race).  
As an amateur, Cadel Evans first big result was winning the bronze medals in Junior World time trial in 2005 and won the silver medal in Under-23 World Championship at 1997 and 1999. In 2000 the Michele Ferrari under the management of Tony Rominger said
that Cadel switched to road cycling full time.   
In 2005 season Cadel joined Davitamon-Lotto team and secured eighth place in first Tour de France and also took the 2001 and 2004 edition of Tour of Austria. In 2006, Cadel won the last stage Tour of Romandie and shows an inspiring and dominating performance
with easily beat Alberto Contador and Alejandro Valverde. Cadel grabbed fifth place in Tour de France but due to disqualification of third winner Floyd Landis, Cadel was promoted to fourth spot.
In 2007 edition, Cadel took part in Tour de France race and secured runner-up place to Contador and also took the fifth place in World Championship. He also secured UCI Pro Tour 2007 ahead of Davide Rebellin.
In 2008 season, Cadel was a favorite to win the Tour de France because Astana team did not allow Contador to take part in the race. Evans again played well and took the overall 10 to 14 stage. However, Carlos Sastre Candil took lead and Cadel remain his
runner-up place. After recovering from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament Cadel joined the Beijing Olympics and finished 15th place behind the winner Samuel Sanchez.
In the tour of 2009, Cadel won the Men’s World Championship road race in September. After short while he took third place in Vuelta a Espana. In Tour de France 2009 Cadel grabbed 30th place with 45 minutes down to winner Contador due to poor team
support. He also grabbed the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali and Criterium du Dauphine Libere. At the end of the season Cadel looking for a new team to better support in the next Tour de France race.
In 2010 season Evan join the BMC racing team and he took the Fleche Wallonne. He won the mass sprint of the seventh stage of Tour of Giro d’ltalia and took overall fifth place in Maglia Rosso Passione (Points standing). Cadel grabbed overall leader’s yellow
jersey in ninth stage of Tour de France  and due to fracture in his left elbow Cadel did not perform well and grabbed 26th place with difference of 50 minutes and 27 seconds behind the winner’ Contador.
The 2011 season is more successful for Cadel and took the sixth stage and overall lead in Tirreno-Adriatico and also took a lead in overall standing of Tour of Romandie. Cadel skipped the Giro d’ltalia tour and prepared for Tour de France race. He performance
well in the race and took fourth stage and due to his good efforts he took overall lead in Tour de France.
Cadel Evans was utterly delighted after his triumph this year and responding to the query how it feels to be the first Australian professional cycling star to take home this title, he was of the belief that it was too soon to comment over it. For the moment,
indeed, the champ wishes to enjoy the feeling of glory and take home the trophy, which, to him could only be clung by the support and prayers of a few people who had always been there to boost his morale. Evans was modest enough to appreciate their belief
and support to take the victory and said that "they’re the people that matter the most".
Evans is a dynamic champion and his competitiveness will surely drive him far into the future winning many awards and accolades on the way.
