Cycling Profile: Frank Schleck
Frank Rene Schleck was born in Luxembourg City on April 15, 1980 and he is a Luxembourg professional road bicycle racer. Frank joined his younger brother Andy on Leopard Trek team and both of them won the 2005 national championships, with Frank grabbed the
road race and Andy took the time trial.
His father Johny Schleck was professional cyclists between 1965 and 1974. Frank showed his good and took the blue riband mountain stage in Tour de France 2006. He also won the Amstel Gold classic race in 2006.
He moved to Italy for rider for De Nardi-Pasta Montegrappa after riding for Luxembourg sports game. After some time his contract with Bjarne Riis the team CSC manager through the common youth coach amateur team. He rides for CSC team in 2002 while he started
his professional career in 2005.
He grabbed the first place in National road race championship and took the fourth stage and overall runner-up spot in Tour Mediterraneen. He continues his good effort and took the second spot in Zuri-Metzgete and overall fourth place in Tour de Suisse.
In the season of 2006, he started by grabbing fifth place in the Paris-Nice. After face crash in Vuelta al Pais Vasco, he made his came back in Amstel Gold race. In the final 10 kilometres, Schleck got alone and took first place with the timing of 6 hours,
25 minutes and 39 seconds ahead of Steffen Wesemann. He also took a part in the Tour de France and took the 15th stage and overall tenth place.
Frank started the 2007 season with taking a part in Paris-Nice and took the ninth place. In the Amstel Gold race he survived a crash after 47 kilometres to go and eventually took tenth place. He also finished seventh place in La Fleche Wallone but he was
announced that he had fractured vertebra, before Liege-Bastogne-Liege. Despite, this fact he took part in the race while in the final kilometers, Di Luca launched attack, due to this Frank finished third. He also took the fourth stage of Tour de Suisse.
In the 2008 season, Frank tried his best to take a first place but failed and grabbed runner-up spot in Asmtel Gold race behind Damiano Cungeo. Frank and his brother Andy showed outstanding performance in Liege –Bastogne-Liege and only two cyclists were
able to attack in the final climb. However, Frank let the three cyclists and grabbed the fourth place. Frank also took the national championship title second time in his career and grabbed the overall fifth place in Tour de France.
The 2009 season is started in Tour of California and Frank took the eighth stage and took the runner-up spot in Paris-Nice in March. In the repeat his winning Amstel Gold race effort, he quit the race because he crashed badly with Matthew Lloyd. His rapid
recovery by winning the the Tour de Luxembourg and took the overall fifth place in Tour de France.
In Tour de France 2010, Frank riding in the third stage but he retired from the race after suffering a triple fracture of his clavicle. In 2010 he took the overall runner-up spot in Tour de Luxembourg and he also secured the third stage and overall victory
in Tour de Suisse.
In 2011 season the Schleck new team was confirmed and he won the first stage and overall Criterium International as well as grabbed runner-up spot in Liege-Bastogne-Liege. He also took the seventh place in La Fleche Wallone and Tour de Suisse. If he continues
his good effort then there is possibility that he can take more victories in his cycling career.
