Cycling Profile: Marianne Vos
Marianne Vos is Dutch cyclo-cross, track racer as well as road bicycle racer. She was born in May 13, 1987 in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. She won the Junior European and World Championship racing and continues in her efforts, at the age of 19 she take
a part in the senior cycling and becoming world champion in cyclo cross and road racing.
Vos added the racing World Championships after winning the point’s race in 2008 and also secured scratch race in 2011. She also grabbed gold medal in the point’s race in 2008 Summer Olympics. Vos started her career at the age of six, after watched her older
brother who was already a cyclists. Vos took a part in her brother’s team for training, although she was not allowed to take part in races and she also started training cyclo-cross in winter. She was able to ride races when she was eight years old.
In the 2002 season she won the Dutch national mountain biking Championship and road race Championships. She grabbed runner-up spot in national time trial championships behind Roxanne Knetemann. In 2003, Vos managed to retain her national junior biking title
and in time trial her again gain a second place.
In the season of 2004, she participates in cyclo cross for the first time and won her first international race after beating Birgit Hollmann. She failed to beat Ellen van Dijk and grabbed third place in Dutch junior road and time trial championship. In Cyclo
cross she won the Surhuisterveen and Pijnacker-Nootdorp. Vos also took first place in Dutch national mountain biking and due to her good performance she took first place in UCI Road World Championships.
In 2005 season, Vos secured first place in national road championship and failed to gain a lead in the time trial and grabbed third place. She participated in cyclo-cross championship and took the second spot behind Daphny van den Brand. Before Winning Mountain
World Cup meeting in Houffalize Vos secured her fourth mountain bike title. She again took a part in the cyclo-cross and after winning her silver medal from Salzburg she took victory of Harderwijk and Suameer. She wants to join European cyclo-cross championship
and grabbed first place by beating van den Brand. She also won two Gieten and Loenhout victory in cyclo-cross.
In 2006 season on January 1, Vos took her victory in cyclo-cross Petange. In Dutch championship Vos and van den Brand again clash with each other and this time Brand won and Vos took silver medal. On January 29 she took a part in the world cyclo-cross championship
and showed her outstanding performance and easily beat Hanka Kupfernagel and van den Brand to take victory. In this season she took several victories while she also fifth stage of Gracia-Orlova and grabbed first stage and overall victory in Tour Féminin en
Limousin.
In 2007 season, Vos maintain her effort and took first place in La Fleche Wallonne Feminine and Rund um die Nurnberger Altstadt. She also took three stages and overall place in Giro di San Marino. In UCI Road World Championships she secured runner-up spot.
Vos won her first track cycling title when she took Women’s Points race at the UCI track World Championship in 2008. After winning this title she was the only women who won the track, cyclo-cross and road cyclist title. She also took first place in La Fleche
Wallonne and Dutch national road Championships.
In 2009 season, Vos took the first place in UCI-cyclo cross World Championship and grabbed her third title in La Fleche Wallonne. She retained her runner-up spot in UCI-world road championships.
She again won the UCI cyclo-cross World Championships and also took Dutch national time trial championships. In 2011 season, she grabbed first place in UCI cyclo-cross, Scratch race and Dutch National cyclo-cross Championships. She took La Fleche Wallonne,
Giro d’ltalia and Grand Prix Elsy Jacobs and if she continues her effort in the next event then there is possibility that she can take first place in the UCI Road World Championships.
