Cycling Profile: Team Garmin-Cervelo
The 38-year-old Jonathan Vaughters is the current CEO and director Sportif of team Garmin Cervelo. It was founded in 2007 and maker of a global positions device, Garmin and Cervelo Cycles are the two major sponsors for the team till 2014.
Team has participated in the Tour de France, Tour of Flanders, Gent Wevelgem, Paris-Roubaix and Giro d’ Italia and shown some good performances over the previous years.
Team Garmin has always been blessed with the most talented and hard working staff that has shown their dedication in the team over the years. Cyclists are only the front face of the team but there is a chain of workforce behind the scenes that ensures the
smooth operations of the team. That workforce includes Soigneurs, Physicians, directors, mechanics, drivers and office staff. All the aforementioned are essential to ensure the successful operation of any team at the international level.
Matt Johnson is the president of team Garmin Cervelo and has an excellent background in the field. Matt has been the CEO of BigWorlds.com and Visage Mobile, the two very successful high technology companies for the past 10 years. Matt has a very good reputation
with both of the two companies as he made them worth over $30-million in annual revenue.
Jonathan Vaughters who has retired from his cycling career at the early age of 30 is currently the CEO and Director Sportif of the team and is the main man behind the success of the team Garmin Cervelo.
During 2007 and start of 2008 team was known as Team Slipstream as it was using SRAM components with Cervelo bicycles. Team announced the switch of its bikes in August 28, 2010 as they moved to Cervelo bikes from Felt Bicycles and hence, the name was changed
to Garmin-Cervelo in 2011.
The combination of Garmin and Cervelo was really a combination that has helped the team to emerge as one of the top teams in the cycling world. Some of the big names that have appeared after the formation of team Garmin Cervelo are Tyler Farrar, Thor Hushovd,
Ryder Hesjedal and Christian Vande Velde including a few young riders in the squad.
Christian Vande Velde was fifth in the 2008 Tour de France while Bradley Wiggins stood out at the fourth position after final general classification of Tour de France, 2010.
Hushovd who is also known as “The Bull from Grimstad” and is famous for his sprinting skills has won two stages in the Tour de France, 2011 as he wore the yellow jersey for 7 days. He has won a total of 10 stages in Tour de France so far.
The 33 year old Thomas Danielson of team Garmin finished ninth at the final general classification of Tour de France, 2011 with Julian Dean and Ramunas Navardauskas at 36th and 37th positions respectively. Thor Hushovd scored the fifth
position at the final Points classification with Tyler Farrar at the eighth position at the Tour de France, 2011.
Team Garmin was at the first position at the final team’s classification of Tour de France, 2011 with a total time of 258:18:49 and team Leopard Trek was 11:04 behind at the second position.
Team targets to be on the top in the coming seasons and good news for the team comes in the shape of Allan Peiper who has signed in to join the team for 2012 after the demise of HTC-Highroad. Allan will be working with the CEO Jonathan Vaughters who has
waited a long time for someone to fit in permanently for Matt White after he has to leave the team earlier this year.
