Question:

Cycling at 300 lbs.....?

i bought a trek pure and love it,my buddy came along today on his mountain bike(he has not rode in many years) even if he was on my trek the small hills would have killied him...is there any paticular type of bicycle out there to get along with over weight people,style tires,frame size etc,etc,etc,

  1. Any type will work- including road bikes. If that is your choice, thn consider a steel or aluminum frame with a carbon fork with aluminum or steel steerer tube. The weakness for Clydesdale riders (any rider over 200 lbs) are usually the wheels. Try going with a 36 spoke setup like a set up Mavic Open Pros with a sturdy hub (like an Ultegra/ Dura Ace hub) and strong spokes (like DT or Sapim for example- there are others). Tire size isn't that important. You can run a tire as narrow as  700X23 or 700X25 like every other rider. I'm 6'3", 210 lbs and I'm a big chain ring roadie and I make sure that any component I get can handle a 300 lb rider without problems. Like I said, any style bike will work for you. It's just the frame build and components that make a difference. Also there are websites that sell custom bikes for larger riders as well.
