Cycling fish tank with platys?

i'm getting some glo fish for my 10g tank. the guy at the store said i had to cycle my tank with some fish (i got 4 platys) because i just clean it all out because my goldfish died. i'm not sure if i want to keep the platys when i get the glo fish. should i bring them back to the store? i don't want to just kill them..

It's much better to do a fishless cycle rather than harm the fish doing it.  4 platies won't likely survive cycling in a 10 gallon tank.  It's barely large enough for them if it had already been cycled.  Read up on fishless cycling and take the fish back to the store and tell the guy that sold them to you it was a good try to waste your money.
