Question:

Cycling in Ireland?

I'm thinking of doing just this, towards the end Sept, for a week or more, but I haven't yet researched it and have no idea how to go about it or where to go. I'll be starting from London, have a friend in North Wles so could stop off there and then ferry across if that looks ok. I've heard that the West Coast is the place to go but guess it would be hilly! Travel and accommodation would be budget-ish. Happy to travel alone but equally happy to have someone along. I'm a fit (but not cycling fit!) 50 year old married male - not into big Guinness bouts!

  2. Don't be a nuisance on that bike. Make sure you cycle on the road and not the pavement where you could knock down innocent pedestrians.

  4. Hi there go for it. I live in the west of Ireland it is hilly in spots but that's what makes it so beautiful. you will need  a high visibility jacket or vest to be seen on the road as some roads have a lot of turns and twists. other than that your sorted there are plenty of cheap B and B's also just look them up on line. try www.irishtourism.ie on line. best of luck with it. :-)

  5. I would recommend cycling in the west or south-west of the country for the scenery however the roads in this part of the country are quite narrow with lots of bends. You will definitely need some raingear and high visability jackets. It gets dark about half seven and there is no hard shoulders on some of these roads. I would also suggest having a light on your bike. And definitely get a map, some villages in the west only have some houses, a shop, and a pub. You might not find accomodation so easily depending on your route. Wesport, in Mayo, is a nice spot.
