Cycling question?

I started riding a road bike about 2 months ago and my right wrist has been hurting. I was wondering if this might be related to bike posture or bike fit and if anyone had any tips in general on how to help this?

  1. You may have a bike related problem (or maybe something else you did off the bike). In general road bikes are less likely to cause wrist problems because you (usually) have several options for hand position on drop handlebars (on the cross bar, on the bend at the end of the crossbar, on the brake hoods, on the drops plus variations) ... unlike a mountain bike where you usually have one.

That said, make sure you are putting your weight mainly on the seat, not on your arms (they are mainly used for balance) ... and use different hand positions.  One final thought, maybe you are keeping your fingers on the brakes and they are in an awkward position. Try assessing your hand position and see if it seems unnatural ... if so try adjusting it until you can be more relaxed.

It may help to consult an experienced road cyclist and see if s/he spots a problem.

    Hope that helps.

  2. A quick way to check if your weight is shifted to far forward is to ride in whatever position you normally do. Then, take your hands off the bars without sitting up. You should be able to easily hold that position. If your shoulders fall forward chances are too much weight is on your hands and you need to adjust your fit.

  3. Too much weigh on your hands or riding with your wrists bent can cause wrist pain.

    Things you can do:

    1. raise your handlebars

    2. make sure you keep your wrists as straight as practical

    3. change hand positions often while riding

  4. i cant belive these answers! everone suddenly has medical expertise! dont take risks with your body, you only get one.

it probably is something minor but go see a doctor!!! dont listen to people on the internet, it's no substitute for  proper medical advice.though i have had this problem myself before due to landing hard after jumping etc,i wont pretend to have a phd!!!! hope your wrist feels better soon, happy riding:)
