  1. Losing weight on 3 miles (6 two-way) daily will take a while; just make sure you eat properly and keep a consistent face pace when pedaling. And make sure to drink water and control your eating habits.

If you want to leave your bike at school i would suggest you use a U-lock. Go buy a small one (Kryptonite mini evolution). A link is supplied on the best way to lock a bike from sheldon brown, the late bike god.

If you're 14, i'm probably more worried about you (yourself) more than your weight loss. make sure you know how to ride a bike along with cars (see link for video).

AND MAKE SURE YOU WEAR A HELMET!! real cyclists frown on people who don't wear them!

  2. well congradulation's on riding a bike!

i am 17 and i cycle 30km (about 40miles) a day on my bmx bike, 1gear.  i cant sit on the bench to pedal..

    so yea it's hard...

you should start low (5miles) and move your way up. each couple  of days do a mile more or someting. you gotta do it at a pace, dont do bang 50miles first day. u will kill yourself.

as for bike seat not confertable. lol most bike's are like that, that's down side of riding a bike.  tho you can always buy a new one, there some seat that a gelly lol.

dont expect to sit on a super confert seat,  your biking!, not the time to feel ''confertable''

    pce

  3. Get a bigger saddle if its hurting your back side, you dont want to get saddle sore ouch.

I cycled from London to Reigate the other day must of lost a few pounds. it was nearlly 90 degrees though.

  4. Well done you, fantastic achievement.

You wont know about the weight thing until you get started. You need to find your current fitness level - don't over do it. Maybe see how far you can cycle in 10 mins. (remember you have to cycle back so that makes it 20 mins exercise). 3 miles should be possible if it is not all uphill and you are not very unfit so you could try on your school route. Record the distance or just note where you got to.  Go out every 2nd day and see if you can get a little bit further in 10 mins.  Once you feel up to it cycle for longer, say 15 mins and build up to 30 mins or an hour whatever you want.  You will loose weight, improve your heart and lung rate and should feel great but you also have to watch what you eat and drink plenty of water, always have a bottle of water on your bike. Wear a helmet and something bright so cars can see you easily.  I hope you enjoy a lifetime of happy cycling.

  5. you lose weight from all over and tone up especially if you go up a lot of hills, you can get cycling gloves and a gel saddle to help you

  6. Cycling is great for helping to get your lungs in shape by breathing correctly, and will tone the legs,so keep at it.But it will not really help to lose weight.Only half the body is active,so it's half as good as,say, running.

However, exercise is nowhere near as good at losing weight as calorie control (diet)remove fatty food, reduce sugar and eat vegetables and plenty fruit, that with the cycling will be enough to lose weight. The good diet will reduce weight and the cycling will help tone the body.Good luck
