Cyprus continues with winning ways in the second round of 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball Championship
The Men’s Junior Volleyball Team of Cyprus defeated Luxembourg in the second round of the Small Countries Division Final Round match on Wednesday.
The match took place in Scottish City Motherwell. The wining squad posted 3-1 (18-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-23) on board to claim the match.
It was second straight win for Cyprus in the European campaign. MOSCHOVAKIS Georgios was the top scorer of the match. He helped the team with 26 points on various attack attempts, blocks, and service aces. YIANNAKKOS was the second best of Cyprus as he contributed
18 points.
On Luxembourg’s side, Kamil RYCHLICKI put up a wonderful effort. He was named the top scorer in Luxembourg squad with a total of seventeen points.
Luxembourg opened the match on a high note and staged an eye-catching action on the net. The defensive expert of Cyprus had a tough time to stand in the way of killing spikes by Luxembourg attackers.
As a result, most of the shots found their way to land on Cyprus’ half. Team Luxembourg picked up a lead and further struggled to stretch the gap of points. In the meantime, Cyprus trailed behind but kept looking for ways to come into the game.
Luxembourg firmly held the control of operations throughout the first set and did not allow the opposite side to come up. Eventually the opening set reached its end and Luxembourg emerged as the winner of first frame. Cyprus lost the set by lagging behind
with seven points, 18-25.
The loss of opening set was enough to teach a lesson to Cyprus squad. They learned from their mistakes and improved on the flaws that they had in the previous set. Luxembourg led the scores for first few minutes but could not hold onto its lead for more.
 Cyprus finally got its form back and pushed Luxembourg behind the attack line. The circumstances and scenario of the game totally changed as Cyprus went up on scoreboard. They started a flurry of scores and never looked back. Luxembourg fell down and caught
up in unforced attack errors, which further benefitted Cyprus.
The hard work paid off and Cyprus hit the equalizer at the end of second set. They captured the set with 10-point margin (25-15) and levelled the game score.
Victory in second set simple proved to be a big push for Cyprus. The team carried the same momentum into third set and gave a good competition to Luxembourg. Third set featured many breath-taking moments as both team came hard each other. The spectators
moved back and forth in their seats, while Cyprus managed to win crucial set, 25-19.
Fourth set was a heated competition. Luxembourg threw everything in attack but still suffered the damage with narrow gap of two points. Cyprus close final set at 25-23 and declared match victory.
