Cyprus defeats Scotland by 3-1 in Pool B of CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship
A match of the 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship – Women (Small Countries Division) was played recently in Cospicua, Malta.
The match was part of the Pool B of the championship. The contest acted as the qualifying match of the pool play. The two teams that made a show of their skills were the squads belonging to Cyprus as well as Scotland.
The match between both Cyprus and Scotland was the first one of the day and took thrilling turns that kept the spectators on the edge of their seats. Before the winner of the game could be determined, both the teams fought hard and took the match to four
long and gruelling sets. In the end, the team that was able to better the other came out to be Cyprus.
Despite the fact that Scotland lost the match, they did not go down without putting up a commendable fight. The opening set of the frame stayed even for the most part but Scotland fell to making errors near the end of the frame that also cost them the set.
The momentum generated by winning the initial frame got the Cyprus squad to start the second set with confidence.
As a result, Cyprus came out strong in the second frame and was able to completely smother the Scotland squad. The loss of the first two sets did not sit too well with the Scottish and they were able to rally themselves together in order to put up a good
performance that enabled them to avoid a clean sweep and bag the third set after a long and hard struggle.
The time it took for the Cypriots to relinquish their dominance and the Scots to give themselves a chance in the match were a total of 33 minutes.
However, Cyprus was not about to give up the match and started off the fourth set with determination. Before the Scots could get into form, Cyprus was able to get hold of the lead at 13-5 and pushed themselves forward towards a match win by sealing the deal
in the final set of the game.
