Cyprus sweeps Scotland in 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship match
The final pool matches of the 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship – Small Countries Division are taking place in the Scottish city of Motherwell currently.
The two teams that competed with each other were the men’s squad from Cyprus as well as Scotland. The match did not take long to come to an end as Cyprus was able to make a clean sweep over its opponents.
The match did not only result in a sweeping victory for the Cyprus squad, they were also able to dominate the Scots as each set was won by a significant margin. The scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 25-16, 25-16 and 25-13.
The coach of the winning team, Kostas Delikostas, expressed his jubilation upon the win in the following manner, “We were one level ahead of Scotland both technically and tactically today, and I felt our great start won us the game.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Scottish team, Thomas Dowens, shared his views on the performance of his team in this way, “These are fantastic learning opportunities for the players to deal with the pressure of multi-day competitions, so we need to
lose in order to be able to win in future.”
The first set of the match saw the Cyprus squad storm ahead to the first technical time out and gain a lead at 8-1. The initial lead set the tone for the rest of the frame as the Scots kept trailing behind till the Cyprus squad was able to bag themselves
the first set of the game at 25-16.
The second set of the match followed much the same pattern as its predecessor as the Scots were not able to pull themselves together in order to challenge their rivals. As a result, the Cyprus squad repeated themselves and before long had themselves another
set of the match at 25-16.
The loss of the first two sets decreased the motivation of the Scots further and they played with only a half hearted effort in the third set of the game. The Cyprus players started the game confidently and kept going strong till they had the last frame
at 25-13.
