Cyril Abiteboul says Caterham are very close towards finalising 2013 driver line-up – Formula 1 news
Caterham team principal, Cyril Abiteboul has said that they are just about to make the decision regarding their driver line-up for the 2013 Formula 1 season.
During the season finale of 2012, the Leafield based squad confirmed Charles Pic’s as their driver for the next season and expressed to make the decision regarding their second driver soon.
Meanwhile, many drivers which mainly include Giedo van der Garde, Bruno Senna, Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov have been linked with Caterham for the coming year.
Abiteboul has said that they are currently considering the options to fill the vacant seat for the coming season and will reach the decision very soon.
Furthermore, he said that they will evaluate the options by two different approaches to reach to the final decision regarding their line-up.
“There are different options,” Abiteboul told the official Formula One website. “One option is someone who he can learn from and who he can use as his benchmark for what we want from both our drivers.”
“Another option, more radical, is to accept the fact that 2013 is a transition year that we use to continue building the team before a period of greater stability in 2014, when a lot of other things in the package will change. Both types of candidates are
out there, and we are close to making a decision,” he added.
Besides, he said that they have full confidence on their driver, Pic who is one of the most talented drivers in the field. Furthermore, he said that they are looking forward to prepare him well for the coming season so that he may be able to attain competitive
results right from the start.
Additionally, he said that Pic has the ability to learn and develop himself with the passage of time which will surely help them in achieving promising results in future.
Lastly, he said that they are looking forward make the essential developments in their car during the winter testing in order to perform well in the next season.
The competition is expected to be tougher in the coming season and it will be exciting to see how Caterham perform with their new driver line-up.
