  1. i have ovarian cysts and they are not dangerous for the most part.  They are a "fluid-filled" sac and they can burst.  When they burst they are REALLY painful, so getting them removed is a good idea usually.  I don't think that you have to worry.  Im not sure how invasive it is to take a cyst out of your throat but it is probably a pretty speedy recovery.  Unless the cyst was cancerous you don''t need to worry, but I think the majority of them are not.  Good luck to your friends recovery.

  2. A benign cyst is nothing to worry about, and is relatively common.

A malignant cyst can be any number of things that are potentially life threatening.

A cyst is a closed sac of some type of substance, fluid,  air, etc.

    It depends on the operation.

  3. A cyst is a closed sac having a distinct membrane and division on the nearby tissue. They may contain air, fluids, or semi-solid material.

    (definition from wikipedia)

Not all cysts are dangerous and fatal, it depends on the type of cyst and the infections it cause. My bestfriend also had an operation, she had a cyst in her left and right ovary. The bad news, her full left ovary was removed because the cyst is too big. The good news is, the right ovary was saved and the cyst is benign. I think the doctor said, cysts are only dangerous when it contains too much cancer cells.

Recovery depends on how much a person rests for a day. My friend has 1-month off from work to recover from the major operation. She is well now. Hope that answers your question.
