Question:

Cyst removal without anesthesia?

Will a doctor remove a pilonidal cyst without anesthesia, (of any kind) at my request? How difficult will it be to find a doctor willing to do this? It's just a simple procedure that takes no longer than 30 minutes.

  1. Um, are you seriously lost? Honestly, you have no idea of the amount of pain involved. No physician would consent to such a procedure, it is tantamount to malpractice.

Granted, you may be able to get it done with an epidural or a local, thus staying awake; but you do need to have something.

    Good luck!!!

  2. honey,

I don't know why, you would do this but it depends on the relationship you have with your doctor.  Believe me lots of thing you don't think would happen, go on behind closed office doors.

Its really used to take the edge off, some types do that but don't mask the pain completely.

If a woman can go through labor pushing anywhere from a 5lb to a 10lb baby through her v****a, and get tears, and stitches without anestheasia i am sure you can get a cyst removed, i just wouldn't reccommend it. but then again you can always ask him.  and if you signed a consent to not use anything, you would have to be specific, knowing, and having explained what the risks are, you can not hold him liable if you fall out from the pain. its not a form of malpractice if you agree to it, by law, but he can refuse. to service you.
