  2. Basically it is a form of sterility in plants that is inherited threw the maternal side and is regulated by the mitochondrial genetics  in the cytoplasm, not the nucleus. In this case seed can still be produced/ set but the genotype/ phenotype is entirely maternal. A great thing to be able to manipulate if you are working with hybridization of a plant.
