Czech Republic beats Egypt 78-70 to qualify for the Quarterfinals: 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship

On Wednesday, July 4, 2012 Egypt lost their 5th consecutive game and dropped down to the last place in Group A, after receiving a 78-70 defeat at the hands of Czech Republic.
Martin Peterka scored 21 and paved Czech’s way to their 2nd victory of the season, Prokop Slanina added13 points and had 9 boards while Radovan Kouril had 12 points and 12 assists.
Ahmed Sayed Soliman, Walid Aly and guard Omar Abdeen netted 12 points each for Egypt, while Ehab Amin also came up with 10 points.
The game took a slow start as deep into the opening frame Czech Republic were having a 14-8 lead, they reeled off a 9-3 run and concluded the stanza at 23-11.
With 4:10 remaining in the 2nd period Egypt managed to come as close as 30-19 but Czech used an 8-0 burst and widened the gap to 38-19 and stretched it down to 42-23 by the end of 1st half.
The huge lead that they built in 1st half helped them the Czechs cruise through the third and midway through the frame they were leading by a margin of 19 points, 50-31.

The hapless Egyptians tried to harness the lead and came up with an 8-4 run but that didn’t inflict any dent on the Czech dominance, and with 2:57 in hand they were still on the top with a 54-39 advantage.  As
the game entered into its last 10 minutes, Czech Republic were having an unquestionable 60-43 lead.
Czechs claimed an 18 points, 64-46, lead early in the final period. Egypt’s guard Amin tried to take charge of the things and netted 2 freebies followed by a trey reducing the gap to 64-50. But that only instigated
the Czechs to pull off an 8-4 burst, and with this run they left Egypt startled at 72-54.

Egypt still had some fight left in them though. They reeled off a 13-4 and shaved down the lead to 76-67, but the charge came a bit too late. The Czechs kept their nerves and managed to carve out a 78-70 win
and qualify for the quarterfinals of the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship.
