The Czech national team put in a solid performance in the first half against Greece in their second group match of the Euro campaign. Two early goals gave Michal Bilek’s side a comfortable lead which they managed to hold on to until the end of the match.
Greece did not go down quietly though as they managed to pull a goal back and dominated their opponents in the second half. However, the Czech held on to record their first win in the tournament and stand a real chance of qualifying for the next round.
It was also the perfect response to their humiliating defeat at the hands of the Russians in the opening match for both sides.
However, the three points did come at a cost as the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882’s star midfielder, Tomas Rosicky, limped off the pitch with an injury. The loss of the Arsenal midfielder was felt by Bilek who saw his side pose less of creative threat in the final third.
Bilek said, "Tomas Rosicky picked up an injury and we missed his creative skills, we found it hard to create, we conceded a terribly stupid goal and then got under pressure.”
The national team’s coach also conceded that the full extent of the injury had not been ascertained however, Bilek was hoping for a speedy recovery.
"While it’s hard to tell the exact nature of it (Rosicky's injury) at the moment it's unpleasant, we have to hope he'll be all right."
Bilek elaborated on how his side were worse off in the second half without their star midfielder and that he would be missed if his injury kept him out of any future matches in the tournament.
"We missed him in the second half as he is a key player for us in attack as he can add tempo our game."
The Czech side now need to ensure they win their last game in the group stages to ensure they qualify for the next round, however they will have to do it without Rosicky.
