Czech Republic defeats Holland in Pool C match of CEV Volleyball European League – Volleyball news
A Pool C match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball European League – Women saw the Czech Republic compete with the Netherlands on June 3rd, Sunday. The venue of the match was the Vodova sports hall in the city of Brno, Czech Republic.
The match was to determine the team that would take the lead in Pool C and therefore saw tough competition being put up from both the sides. It took the home team a total of five sets to finally hand out a defeat to the squad from Netherlands. The final
set scores stood at the following points: 25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 21-25, and 15-10.
The coach of the home team, Carlo Parisi, shared his satisfaction at the win in the following manner, “The Netherlands have been working together already since some weeks and hence they have an advantage. The road for our team is still very long but this
win tells us that we are going in the right direction. It is normal that we played well for only three sets as we still have to deal with some fatigue and drops in our focus.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Netherlands team, Gido Vermeulen, said, “The Czechs played very well for the first two sets while we had problems in reception. Afterwards, we took more risks also from the serving line and they got under pressure. The
tie-break was decided by the good service of the Czech team.”
Despite the disappointment felt at the loss of the match, the Dutch had something to be proud of as their opposite, Lonneke Sloetjes, was able to tally the highest number of points in the entire match by scoring 27 of them.
The start of the opening set saw both the teams struggle but eventually, the home team was able to take the lead at 9-8 which went on till 16-12. Czech Republic did not let go of their control and made an easy win at 25-17.
The second set saw the Dutch squad step up and gave quite a challenge to the home team. The match went back and forth but the Czech succeeded once again in bagging a win at 25-23. The third and the forth sets were grabbed by the Dutch but the home team was
able to pull themselves together and secure the final set at 15-10.
