Czech Republic defender Michal Kadlec believes his team can beat Scotland and Liechtenstein
Czech Republic defender Michal Kadlec believes that his side will be able to pick up victories over Scotland and Liechtenstein in the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship qualifying matches.
The Czechs are currently second to the bottom of the group after suffering defeat at the hands of Lithuania. Scotland (who is currently at the top of the group), and reigning World and European champions Spain are also ahead of them in the race to qualify
for the finals for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine.
On a positive note, Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Kadlec told FIFA.com that he and his teammates were looking to make up for the loss to Lithuania, and that they are also seeking revenge against Scotland due to their friendly defeat earlier this year.
Taking nothing for granted
The 25-year-old said that, “Back in March, we lost 1-0 in a friendly to Scotland, but as is so often the case, we were the better team on the night. We are also taking nothing for granted against Liechtenstein. It’s always hard to break these teams down.
You have to be on your guard the whole time. But I still think we have it in us to win both games.”
While national team coach Michal Bilek has several talented players at his disposal, many of them are edging into their 30s and will leave a notable gap in the team when they eventually retire.
Kadlec said that, "None of us are getting any younger. I think we’re having problems because younger players haven’t been brought into the side quickly enough in the past. These mistakes are going to be hard to correct, although most of our results recently
have actually been okay. But then we go and lost at home to Lithuania, a serious setback, and a very poor start to qualifying. However, we’re not exactly out of it yet."
