Czech Republic to take on Italy in the Federation Cup – Tennis News
Czech Republic’s Federation Cup team is led by the third ranked starlet, Petra Kvitova. The defending champions will take on the strong Italian squad who is pumped up to devastate the reigning leaders. Kvitova is backed by the
likes of Lucie Safarova who is sublime run of form. The duo of Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka is having one of the best times at the court. They will be amongst the doubles team matchup. It’s a very strong Czech squad but the Italians are no less as
well.
Kvitova stated, “My father booked a lot of tickets, so I'm looking forward to seeing some friends and all the fans. It's very nice to play close to home. I and the whole team have a lot of support here!” All matches will be played
at the indoor hard courts of the CZE Arena in Ostrava, a place that is just an hour drive away from Kvitova’s place.
Francesca Schiavone will play in the singles category. She is not in good form at the moment but this might prove to be a good luck charm for the Italian who is exploring an opening that will regain her confidence. She said, "My
results haven't been great so far this year, but I'm working hard and I think it's a good possibility I'll start playing much better in the clay court season," Schiavone said. "I think I can find a good feeling on clay and in the tournaments coming up. I'm
really just trying to look forward and stay positive."
Sara Errani will feature both in the singles and doubles category. She is in emphatic run of form having registered a couple of clean sweeps this season; winning singles and doubles titles in Acapulco and Barcelona. It seems whenever
she is going to win the title, it is going to be a single-double swoop every time. Her regular partner, Roberta Vinci, will be accompanying her to all her double triumphs this season.
In an all time record, Italians lead the Czech 4-3 in the Federation Cup head-to-head series but considering the conditions and home soil, Czechs are the hot favourite team to win the tie. However, with all the factors favouring
the home team, the possibility of a major upset is still there considering the class of Italian team. It will be an eye-startling battle between the two teams and a must watch for everyone.
