Czech Republic tops standings at 2011 MEVZA Junior Men’s Volleyball Tournament
Men’s junior volleyball team of Czech Republic exhibited a spectacular performance at recently held 2011 MEVZA Championship.
The city of Kecskemet in Hungary provided the backdrop for the volleyball scrimmage, which continued from December 28 to 30. In three days’ time, European volleyball enthusiasts got to see some extreme action on the centre court. Teams showcased their attack
and defence tactics, and closed the season on a very good note. Czech Republic secured the gold medal, while Slovenia and Slovakia got hold of the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Day 1
The MEVZA Men’s Junior Volleyball Championship got the green light on Wednesday, December 28. The opening day of the tournament featured five matches. Fixtures of day-1 were as followed:
09:00: Czech Republic vs. Austria 

11:00: Slovakia vs. Hungary 

14:00: Slovenia vs. Czech Republic 

16:00: Austria vs. Slovakia 

18:00: Slovenia vs. Hungary
The day was opened with a great match between Czech Republic and Austria. Both teams showed great fighting spirit and closely contested the first set. Austrian team claimed first frame with a slight margin of two points at 26-24. However, Czech Republic
responded in an aggressive tone and kept Austria behind the attack line in the following sets. Czech team played to its full potential and did not rest until the final whistle of referee. They won last three sets of the match in row by sending 25-20, 25-21,
and 25-16 on board. Despite having a good start in the game, Austrian team dropped the final decision.
In the second match of day-1, Slovakia launched power over Hungary and seized 3-0 (26-24, 25-14, 25-16) victory.
With one victory in hand, Czech hotshots approached the court for their second match (overall third match of the day) against Slovenia. The opposite team resisted in full force and gave a hard time to Czech Republic. However, Czech side battled out victory
in five sets 3-2 (16-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-19, 17-15).
Later in the day, Austria scored 3-0 victory against Slovakia, while Slovenia overpowered host Hungary in straight sets.
Day 2
The second day of the tournament featured following five matches:
09:00: Czech Republic vs. Slovakia 

11:00: Austria vs. Slovenia

14:00: Hungary vs. Czech Republic 

16:00: Slovakia vs. Slovenia

18:00: Hungary vs. Austria
Czech Republicans appeared in two matches on the second day of the tournament. They achieved 3-2 (25-19, 25-18, 23-25, 21-25, 15-13) victory over Slovakia in the opening affair and breezed past home team (Hungary) in the second match, which confirmed Czech
Republic for the finals. On the other hand, Slovenia clawed its way to the final match by beating Slovakia with 3-1 ratio. Host Hungary remained without any win on the day-2 of the tournament
Final match
Czech Republic emerged as the winner of the tournament after beating Slovenia in the final match with 3-1 (15-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-21) on board.
